I had dyed this fibre for a personal project, and spun 100 grams of each braid myself, into a beautiful 3ply sport weight yarn that has stolen my heart! I’ve included photos of my finished yarn to give you an idea of what your own version of yarn could look like using this set!
This set of 3 separate braids of 100 grams each, that offers so many possibilities! Spin them separately, and you can have a gorgeous 3 skein fade. Or follow my lead and create 100 grams of each in singles, spun from one end to the other, and ply them together to create long stretches of colour flow! Mix and match them, let your imagination run wild, the sky is the limit with this kind of colour palette! Blues and teals, olive greens and rusty golds, I’m always enchanted by these hues and can’t get enough of them!
Targhee is a welcome addition to the spinning fibre selection here at Hidden Pond Yarns! Someone once said, 'Targhee simply WANTS to be yarn', and I find that to be so well put. A joy to spin, this fibre has a great grip to it, as well as a long staple length, making it less slippery to draft with than Merino can be. It's an untreated fibre, but still takes the dyes up in a bold and striking way. Some colour run off in the first few washes isn't uncommon, although I try my hardest to make sure all the acid dyes are set well and rinsed out properly. There is one braid (the more saturated one with hints of berry in it, does bleed dye onto your hands while spinning. Not ideal, but after the yarns first bath, an extra rinse should do the job in shaking loose any extra dye!)
While I find this fibre to be soft enough for 'next to skin wear', some may find Targhee to be lightly more rustic than Merino. I love the bounciness and fullness of this fibre, I find the yarn I have been able to spin with this combed top to be nice and plump.
This base is good for felting, but if you are not intending to felt your project, you'll want to be mindful when washing this yarn. Cold water, gentle hand wash only, and always lay flat to dry
23 Microns - Staple Length 4"-5"
I try my very best to capture the most accurate photos to best represent the colours, using natural light.
I do not keep any of the dye recipes for this product, each batch is a one of a kind creation. If you like what you see, grab the quantity you need while you can!
