Combed Top Fibre Bases

Poison Apple is coming in with the dramatic flare, with deep and moody velvet hues, with sparks of bold apple greens. This colourway will make you feel like your favourite villain in all the sneaky ways!

Poison Apple is a repeatable colourway, with a well detailed recipe and can be replicated here in the studio.

80/20 Superwash Merino / Nylon Combed Top: This beautiful, hand dyed merino/nylon blend is ultra soft, and easy to care for thanks to it's Superwash treatment. A joy to spin, this fibre is so soft, fluffy, and buttery smooth. A great choice for both beginner spinners, or for the more experienced. You can easily spin both fine yarns and thicker yarns with this combed top. A perfect choice for yarn intended for sock knitting, as the addition of nylon gives it that extra kick of durability needed for hard wearing knitwear. This base is NOT good for felting. I always recommend hand washing your finished yarn and laying flat to dry. 22.5 Microns - Staple Length 2”-5" The colours of dye come out bolder, brighter and more striking on this combed top fibre, again thanks to the superwash treatment.

100% Superwash Merino Combed Top: This wonderful hand dyed merino wool is ultra soft, and easy to care for thanks to it's superwash treatment. I love both dyeing and spinning with this fibre base. You can easily spin both fine yarns and thicker yarns with this combed top. This base is NOT good for felting, because of the Superwash treatment within. But that means it's much less fragile to handle, especially in water. I always recommend hand washing your finished yarn and laying flat to dry. 22 Microns - Staple Length 2 1/4”-4”. The colours of dye come out bolder, brighter and more striking on this combed top fibre, again thanks to the superwash treatment.

100% Untreated Merino Combed Top: There’s something special about untreated merino wool! It’s soft, but slightly more rustic than the superwash treated merino. It’s more grippy, some may find it easier to manage on their wheels. Being an untreated wool, we need to be very gentle when washing and dyeing this product in roving form. Once it's spun into yarn, I recommend hand washing in cold water, with a gentle wool wash, and lay flat to dry. This base is GREAT for felting, because it's so sensitive to the temperature of water. 22 Microns - Staple Length 2 1/4”-4”. The colours of dye come out softer, dreamier, more muted and muddled, thanks to the natural state of the fibre. Colour bleeding in the first wash is normal, although I do everything possible to avoid this, but keep that in mind when giving your yarn it’s first and second bath!

100% Bluefaced Leicester Combed Top: This combed top is untreated wool, from the BFL sheep breed. A fan favourite of spinners all over, this fibre is slightly more sturdy and durable compared to Merino Wool, thanks to it's high micron count, and you'll notice your finished garments won't stretch out quite as much. You'll be sure to appreciate the sheen and drape of your finished yarn using Bluefaced Leicester. If you're a newbie to hand spinning, you may prefer BFL to Merino, as the staple length is longer, and the fibre is slightly less slippery, you'll appreciate the crimp factor of this wool! This base is good for felting, because of the natural state of this untreated fibre. If you don't intend to use it for felting, you'll want to be mindful when washing you yarn, being careful for sharp temperature changes in the water, and less agitating the wool while washing. 26 Microns - Staple Length 3”-6”. The colours of dye come out softer, dreamier and more muddled with untreated bases like this one. I do everything possible to avoid colour bleeding, but dye runoff within the first bath isn't uncommon.

The photo shown is of a braid of approximately 200 grams. This product is sold in quantities of 100 grams. T I'll do my very best to send your quantity in one continuous piece, however there is a chance that you'll receive multiple lengths to make up the weight you've ordered.

This listing is for a Fibre Forever Colourway, and is offered as a ‘dyed to order’ product. The turn around time is fairly quick, and I’ll work hard to have your fibre on it’s way within a day or two!
